Aalborg Karneval 2005
A poster made for the Karneval i Aalborg (Carnival in Aalborg) poster competition in 2005
The objective was to create a poster, that matched the theme 'The shepherdess and the chimney-sweep - and other fairytales' (Hyrdinden og skorstensfejeren - og andre eventyr).
'The shepherdess and the chimney-sweep' is an old fairytale written by the world known writer H. C. Andersen, and the whole Denmark celebrates his 200 year birthday in 2005.
I illustrated one of the scenes in the fairytale, where the two porcelain figures have just escaped to freedom and is standing on the top of a roof.
They are reaching for eachother to illustrate their love, and to top it off a red heart rises with the smoke from a chimney in the background. All the light in the poster radiates from the heart, to make it the focus
of the picture.
In the background I drew a ghostly like figure of the big chinese porcelain figure, who didn't want the two to be together, but couldn't do anything about it.
If you look closely, you can also see 4 small jousters dancing between the stars, to emphasize the Carnival theme.
The poster came in on a 4th place (approximately 100 designers entered the competition), and is put on display on several places in Northern Jutland, throughout 2005.
